Internship Programme

The Internship Program is a regular and integral part of the initiatives undertaken by Yasashi Foundation through the Yasashi Education Center. It provides interns with an opportunity to gain practical experience while contributing to meaningful educational and community-based initiatives.

Through hands-on involvement, interns develop valuable skills, gain real-world exposure, and understand the importance of education and social responsibility. The program aims to nurture confident, compassionate, and responsible individuals while creating a positive impact in the community.

What Interns Experience

Classroom Teaching

Interns teach subjects including English, Mathematics, Reasoning, EVS, and storytelling to children from Nursery to Class V.

In their own words — what our interns learned, experienced, and took away from their time with Yasashi Foundation.

Arihana Medhi

My experience with Yasashi Education Centre was a deeply meaningful learning experience that allowed me to work closely with children while contributing to their education and development. During my teaching internship, I taught students from Classes 3 and 4 subjects including English communication, Mathematics, Reasoning, EVS and storytelling. I also participated in field surveys, visiting homes and interacting with families to better understand the realities surrounding children's access to education. Alongside teaching, I worked on Yasashi's social media, creating posters, reels, videos and other content for Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn. I was also involved in the Lead and Learn summer camp, where I helped facilitate activities such as storytelling, theatre, art and craft, and environmental awareness. The experience taught me patience, initiative and adaptability, while showing me that education extends far beyond classrooms. Most importantly, it gave me the opportunity to contribute meaningfully while learning from the children and the community around them.

Jyotibarna Medhi

During my internship at Yasashi Foundation, I gained practical experience in community development, education, and social welfare. I worked closely with children at the Yasashi Education Centre, where I assisted in teaching and learned the importance of patience, creativity, and child-centred learning. I also participated in family field surveys to understand the social, educational, economic, and health conditions of underprivileged families, which enhanced my communication, observation and data collection skills. As part of the internship, I contributed to a health awareness camp by spreading awareness about children's vaccination, nutrition, maternal health, and preventive healthcare. I was also involved in collecting information on the availability of government welfare schemes. Additionally, I participated in an educational movie screening for children, which highlighted the value of creative and interactive learning methods. I also took part in the Diya Campaign, where I worked alongside fellow volunteers to paint and decorate diyas. Overall, this internship provided valuable exposure to grassroots social work and strengthened my skills in communication, teamwork, documentation, community engagement and problem-solving.

Meghna Banik

During my block placement at Yasashi Foundation, I participated in educational activities, health awareness programmes, community surveys, documentation, summer camps, creative activities and case studies. I worked with children, teachers, parents and community members. Through this experience, I learned communication, teamwork, documentation, patience, observation and child-friendly interaction. I also learned some local language expressions and gained practical knowledge of social work. My journey with Yasashi Foundation was a meaningful and valuable experience that helped me grow personally and professionally.

Jiya Tandon

My internship was a really meaningful experience for me. Spending time with the children gave me an opportunity to understand them beyond just academics. Through storytelling, activities, conversations and simple interactions, I learned how important it is to make children feel heard, comfortable and valued. One of the most special parts of my experience was building a connection with the children. Initially, some of them were a little shy or hesitant to participate, but gradually they became more comfortable and started sharing their thoughts and stories with me. This taught me that sometimes, a little patience, understanding and genuine attention can make a big difference. This internship taught me that working with children is not just about teaching them — it is also about listening, understanding and learning from them.

Spriha Kashyap

While I was on internship with Yasashi I got the opportunity to enter the classroom and teach the children, who were excellent young learners, in person. The main thing I did was to carry out the daily lessons, design interesting learning activities, and assist the students in gaining confidence in their basic skills. This experience has shown me that effective teaching involves more than just getting across the material; it calls for patience, adaptability, and active listening. I acquired the ability to adjust my method to meet the different needs of learners and was able to establish genuine connections with the children. My experience at Yasashi was having a deep and significant impact. It enhanced my respect for education that is driven by the community and provided me with useful practical experience in the areas of leadership, communication, and empathy.

Rupali Das

During my internship at YASASHI Foundation, Guwahati, I integrated academic theory with practical social work in education and community development. At the Education Centre, I assisted teachers and led awareness sessions on hygiene and digital responsibility. I organized health programs for mothers—focusing on mental wellness and nutrition—and conducted field surveys in Bonda–Chapidong to assess socio-economic conditions. Administrative responsibilities included managing student data via Excel and conducting case studies for slow learners to provide individualized support. Additionally, volunteering at a multi-disciplinary Summer Camp enhanced my event coordination and child facilitation skills. Collectively, these experiences in casework, documentation, and community engagement sharpened my leadership and professional confidence, providing a comprehensive foundation for my future career in social work.

Internship

Internship has been a regular and integral part of the initiatives undertaken by Yasashi Foundation through Yasashi Education Centre. Every year, students pursuing Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and Master of Social Work (MSW) from various universities and institutions complete their mandatory block placement with the Foundation.

During their placement, interns actively participate in educational support programmes, community surveys, health camps, awareness drives, casework, group activities, documentation, and capacity-building initiatives. The programme equips future social workers with valuable field experience and nurtures empathy, leadership, and professional competence.

Field Survey

On 23 June 2026, Yasashi Foundation conducted a General Family Field Survey at Ghuligaon- Bonda, Kamrup Metro, Assam, to better understand the social, economic, educational, and health conditions of families in the community. The survey aimed to identify the needs of households and gather information that would help the Foundation design more effective community development programmes. Before the survey began, the team interacted with the families and distributed essential items such as milk, chira (flattened rice), and biscuits to build trust and encourage open communication. Using a structured questionnaire, the team collected information on family background, education, occupation, income, health, vaccination, government welfare schemes, and children's educational needs through respectful face-to-face interactions. The survey provided valuable insights into the challenges faced by the community and strengthened Yasashi Foundation's commitment to planning need-based interventions that support the overall well-being and development of families.
