After completing his MBA from Gauhati University, Sri Mukesh Agrawal joined the Indian Police Service in 1989 and was allotted the Assam-Meghalaya cadre. He has more than 34 years of experience in law enforcement, investigation, crime prevention, crisis management, and maintaining public safety and order.
He retired on superannuation on 28 February 2023 as Director General of Civil Defence and Commandant General of Home Guards, Assam, and Special DGP-cum-Director of Fire and Emergency Services, Assam.
Experience and Current Roles
During the peak of insurgency in Assam, he served as Superintendent of Police in seven districts. He subsequently held senior assignments as Deputy Inspector General, Inspector General, Additional Director General, and Special Director General of Police, including Commissioner of Police, Guwahati City, and ADGP (Law and Order), Assam.
He currently serves as an Independent Director on the Board of Directors of Apollo Excelcare Hospital, Guwahati, and as Principal Advisor to Smart IAS Foundation, a Guwahati-based coaching centre. He also writes for English newspapers in Assam on contemporary topics.
Achievements and Training
During his service, he received 36 appreciations and commendations, including recognition from the Office of the Vice President of India and the Prime Minister's Office. His honours include the Police Medal for Meritorious Service, the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service, the Chief Minister's Police Medal for Outstanding Service, and the Chief Minister's Special Service Medal in a Crisis Situation.
His professional training includes programmes at IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta, and XLRI Jamshedpur, along with international courses in Vicenza, Italy, and Washington, DC. His areas of expertise include leadership, conflict management, risk analysis, project implementation, financial management, legal matters, problem-solving, and office administration.
